The nearest star to Earth is the Sun, which is the source of most of the energy on Earth. Other stars are visible in the night sky, when they are not outshone by the Sun. Many of the objects you can see in the night sky are stars, large objects in space that produce light. Stars are so far away that their light does not reach us for many years. As light from so far away passes through our atmosphere, it is bent so that the star seems to twinkle.
