Koalas look like teddy bears and are sometimes even called “teddies,” but koalas aren’t bears. Like kangaroos and opossums, koalas are marsupials, that is, mammals that carry their young in a pouch on their bodies. Koalas live only in eastern Australia and feed only on eucalypt leaves.
